This kinetic energy is then converted into pressure energy within the pump casing, enabling the liquid to exit the discharge nozzle in a continuous, steady flow.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1155\">Unlike positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps provide a flow rate that varies with head while ensuring a stable, high-velocity, continuous flow.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1157\" data-end=\"1422\">They are particularly suited to handling low-viscosity fluids and can be configured to process mildly corrosive fluids or those with limited solids content. Thanks to this versatility, they are widely used in the marine sector, where they are employed in:<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"1e4c5nj\" data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1445\"><strong>Cooling Systems<\/strong> &#8211; Seawater pumps handle large volumes of fluid for cooling main engines and generators.<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"1i4zji8\" data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1558\"><strong>Bilge Water Systems<\/strong> -They allow the removal of drainage water that collects in the lowest part of the vessel.<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"vnkrb4\" data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"1676\"><strong>Ballast Water Systems<\/strong> &#8211; They manage the transfer of ballast water, which is essential for vessel stability.<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"knv3ks\" data-start=\"1762\" data-end=\"1808\"><strong>Firefighting and General Service Systems<\/strong> &#8211; They provide high water flow rates to firefighting systems and other onboard services.<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"1hyhko9\" data-start=\"1897\" data-end=\"1925\"><strong>Fluid Transfer Systems<\/strong> &#8211; They are used for transferring fuel, lubricating oil and other fluids between different compartments of the vessel.<\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"132ms1v\" data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2070\"><strong>Offshore Applications<\/strong> &#8211; They are also used for seawater injection into reservoirs to support enhanced oil recovery operations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2502\" data-end=\"2759\">As highlighted in our previous article, it is the characteristics of the system and the application that determine the most suitable pump configuration.
